Ep. 79: Quartzsite | Arizona RV travel camping

25 Comments on Ep. 79: Quartzsite | Arizona RV travel camping

Quartzsite may well be the most famous small town in America among RV’ers. It’s where RV dwellers spend their winter months boondocking on BLM land, and attend the Big Tent RV show and RTR in January. We visit in November before the big crowds arrive to check out the camping, the town, and the nearby memorial to the Japanese WWII internment camp in Poston.

Filmed: November 4-6, 2018

I always appreciate your good videography all the pretty shots and beautiful locations. But this one was perhaps my favorite episode. You showed us something unique and peculiar and also provided a small History lesson. Thanks Marc!

    1. Grand Adventure

I’m so glad you commented, because I was slightly down on how this one turned out. We sincerely appreciate it! Thanks for watching!

  2. David Roth

I have never heard of Poston before. That was a very good information on it . Beautiful views. Thank you.

    1. Grand Adventure

Thank you David! We hadn’t either, but when a viewer told us about it we had to go check it out. Thanks for watching!

  3. Gavin Streetie

Very interesting film Marc especially about the camp , learning new things with Grand adventure , also like the idea of the RV town I would imagine it would go down very well here 👍 G&Z Thankyou

    1. Grand Adventure

It’s crazy — the town’s population of just over 3k draws 1.5 million visitors, mostly RVers in January and February. Great to hear from you two, and Happy New Year!

  4. Doug Leenheer

So why exactly did the u.s. create these concentration camps? I always hate when people leave out important pieces of information in order to push a narrative. It shows how truly disgusting they themselves are.

    1. Grand Adventure

+Clunker 59 that’s your prerogative, and thank you for being with us this far at least. However, I disagree in that no matter what you think or believe, I think that all can agree that Pearl Harbor, WWII, etc. was hardly a happy time in our history. It’s a shame, too, that you won’t see our visit to the Mojave Cross honoring our nation’s WWI heroes in Ep. 81, for we discuss the political battle over its existence on public land that was decided by the Supreme Court, or when we focus our lens on the Gen. Patton Museum in Ep. 80.

    2. Doug Leenheer

I just hope that the man who made this video is highly ignorant and didn’t understand what he was doing by presenting one side of a story that cost the lives of 500,000 American men and women.

    3. Clunker 59

+Grand Adventure you painted the narrative, when you categorized the event as a “dark side” in our nations history. Unsubscribing, that is what I do when channels get political.

    4. Winger#Yemen calling for help

Who really knows? As a 65 year old, I now understand that what they say is usually a lie. They said it was to prevent them from attacking from within. However, the opportunity was used to seize their properties. I would not be surprised if some 1%ers wanted something they had. Also, we now know that our government false flagged the attack on Pearl Harbor. Their story was a lie. The government knew it was coming and could have prevented it. Maybe they feared some form of justified retribution. Seeing how easily the citizens of this country are turned against innocent people, it may have saved their lives.

    5. Grand Adventure

Not sure what you’re referring to, Doug, as we have no narrative to push other than great RVing. That said, to respond to your question (which seems rhetorical?) the US rounded these folks up and basically incarcerated them after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, simply because they had 1/16 or more Japanese ancestry, with the belief that it was to protect our homeland from further attack. The vast majority were not foreign nationals, they were US Citizens entitled to the same rights that all of us who are US Citizens enjoy. You’re welcome to draw your own conclusions from that.

  5. Roy Saxton

been going to quartzsite for the last 30 years, less lately because the commercial rv dealers have moved in and taken over most of the flea markets. Now only full time commercial junk sellers are the only folks left… we use to spend a week there, now just a couple of nights on the way through…

    1. Grand Adventure

Yeah, we looked around — no real deals that we could find in those tents. Like we said in the video, somewhat disappointed in the town, but the boondocking was gorgeous.

  6. Whoa Nellie RV Adventures

Well done. I didn’t know about Poston. Tragic. – Great job high-lighting plants.

    1. Grand Adventure

Thanks Lucy! We didn’t know about Poston, either – it was viewer Bruce H who pointed us there!

  7. Scenic Driveways

    Nice informative video Mark ,
From what I’ve learned the Long Term Visitor’s Area is a total of $180 for 7 months. , so that’s not to bad considering they have a dump station , a fresh water station and dumpsters to get rid of your trash.

    1. Grand Adventure

I agree, Mark. Oddly, though, I saw both terms written, I believe on the memorial. In my case, though, it was a slip of the tongue — something I do often! 😅
